Circle of friends

Soul Scrappers Quest is on again... a really fun challenge in which we receive a 'mystery envelope' of goodies, and are required to use all the items on a layout or other creation.  This month, the theme is CIRCLE OF FRIENDS.

First, my envelope arrived - all the way from USA to Australia in this uncertain COVID world - very quickly. That was a lovely surprise even before I saw the contents!

I used ALL the contents to make this double page layout.  I worked on this layout while I was at the Scrap Boutique craft retreat last weekend.  {Click to enlarge - there's a lot of detail!}

Materials from my stash
Elle's Studio You & Me - All My Heart patterned paper
Bazzill Basics Kraft cardstock
Bazzill Basics White Dot acetate
iCraft Deco Foil - Gold transfer sheet
Glitz Design Icing - Pink mini gems
Ranger Tim Holtz - Tarnished Brass distress stain spray
Kaisercraft Coastal Escape - Sea Life wood veneers
Crayola watercolour pencils
Fiskars 2" Circle punch
Sunlit Anywhere - 3" circle punch

Challenge requirements:
  • A photo of you with friends - Multiple photographs from a bayside day out
  • Decorate the 'friend' chipboard so it stands out - I used gold DecoFoil, ink, and gems
  • Add a word before or after 'friend' in the title - Girl Friends
How I used the provided items:
  • Butterflies (5) - I used all
  • Circles (4) - I used all, attached with machine stitching.  I also added a few extras cut from acetate, and the postage stamp from Mary's envelope.
  • Stamped image - Coloured with watercolour pencils, and fussy-cut
  • Pink burlap - Cut into strips, frayed and stitched at the base of the photographs
  • Polka dot strip - Tore into strips and machine-stitched
  • Floral paper - Tore into strips and machine-stitched
  • Pearl beads - I used all - on the butterflies, and scattered amongst the shells
  • Plastic film - I punched a circle and stitched onto the page, and used the remaining pieces as corner photo mats
  • Doiley - Coloured with distress stain and cut into two pieces
  • Friend chipboard - Decorated as described
I really loved this challenge because it got me thinking about creative ways to use the provided items. It's different from my usual pared-back pages, but I had fun to 'loading up' the pages!
