SOUL SURVIVOR - November

Soul Scrappers is celebrating the site's 10th anniversary in 2020, with a SURVIVOR-themed year long challenge.  I've managed to complete all the monthly challenges so far, I will continue to share my creations on my blog.

The November challenge challenge is a Christmas card, with a twist: Add Santa on the beach or on an island.

Materials
Cocoa Vanilla Endless Summer - Coastal Chill patterned paper
Cocoa Vanilla Endless Summer - Blue Skies patterned paper
Cocoa Vanilla Flying High - Up & Away patterned paper
Cocoa Vanilla Endless Summer - This & That patterned paper
White felt
Bazzill Basics Powder Blue cardstock
Creative Expressions Stacked Happy Christmas cutting die
Button from my habby stash

My biggest dilemma was how to make a Santa.  I got my inspiration from a free finger puppet pattern by One Creative Mommy.  I started out intending to make a felt Santa, but my creative meanderings took me down a different path. I modified the design heavily to use paper scraps with just a touch of felt, and to bring Santa down to a beachwear state of undress!

I tossed around ideas for Santa in a row boat, swim-ring, surfing (a very popular Aussie Christmas card theme) and even skydiving onto the beach... but I kept it simple with Santa wading on the water's edge, which is mostly what I do when I go to the beach. I staged Santa onto an easel fold card, and made a beach scene using different patterned papers for the sand, water and sky.

Here's the side view to show the different layers:

ARTastic in November

This month at ARTastic Challenge we're going with a VINTAGE theme, inspired by this lovely piece by Australian artist, Hilda Rix Nicholas:

I made a double heritage-themed layout.  My inspiration from the painting was the addition of the mauve flowers and mauve journalling tag. {Click to enlarge}

Materials
DCWV Watercolor Garden patterned papers
Corrugated cardboard
Kaisercraft Botanica - Collectables die cuts
Unbranded alphabet cutting dies

I'm sharing my page at Simon Says Wednesday for the Anything Goes theme.
