Still cruising...

Another one for my travel journal...

Materials
DCWV Watercolour patterned paper
DCWV Watercolour Garden patterned paper
Washi tape - red stripe
Circular paper clip
Cocoa Vanilla Hello Sunshine die cut ephemera
Wood veneer ship wheel
Heidi Swapp Daiquiri Ice Dot ribbon

Inspired by, and sharing at:

* More Than Words ~

I thought this retro print of a chimpanzee sunbathing was funny - not just the image, but the placement of it on the lido deck of the cruise ship, amongst the sun lounges!  I couldn't take a photograph when the deck was crowded, but it seemed like someone, somewhere was making a subtle commentary about the holiday makers...

* CSI Challenge ~ Case File #319

The monkey image in the centre - jumped at me straight away.  This photograph didn't make the first pass when I was selecting which ones to put in my journal.  And the monkey's HELLO inspired my page title. Then, some splashes of red and aqua on the page, and it's looking more like a vacation page :)

Edit to add - my page received an honorable mention at More than Words.

When I first saw the mood board I first thought of this takeaway coffee cup that I saved from one of our market trips.  I remember thinking at the time, that I was annoyed that I had forgotten my travel cup so I had to use a single-use cup, but then the cup was so cute that I kept it to use in a project "one day".

Rainbow Portrait

I followed an online tutorial by Tammy James over at Soul Scrappers and painted my first ever face.

I found the experience a little stressful because I didn't really feel like I knew what I was doing, and I don't understand the properties of the various media and how/why they are used in different situations. I think in general I like to have a little more control over my creative process.

But... I enjoyed it from a "challenge" point-of-view - it was a learning experience that truly pushed my boundaries and had me doing something totally new to me (like, jumping off a cliff).

I used basic supplies that I had at home - Gelatos, watercolour paints, watercolour pencils, acrylic paint.

So... here are some progress shots:

Ten minutes into the video... watercolour pencils with some water brushed on ~

- - - - - - -

Twenty minutes in, at the end of Part 1 of the video... not too sure about it.  Rainbow hair done with Gelatos and watercolours.  Feeling timid about going too heavy with the black outlines, but worried it looks too washed out. Not liking the mouth at all!!  Letting her dry off while I locate and load Part 2.

- - - - - - -

At the end of Part 2, after another 20 minutes (video tutorial) and an extra 20 minutes (replaying the video and trying to follow along).  Still not happy with the mouth,  don't like that her features are out of proportion, but kind of liking the eye!  I'm calling it done because I don't trust myself to keep going.

Weekend scrapping

Loving my weekend crafting time, feeling inspired not only to stash-bust, but to photo-bust as well.  No rhyme or reason... just scrapping whatever photo grabs my attention next.

This layout is another for the 2012 album.  I shelved these pics for ages because they are a bit forced, and have harsh indoor-flash shadows.  But "cousin" visits are few and far between so I really wanted to include them in a layout....

Materials
Cocoa Vanilla Sugar & Spice - Journal Cards patterned paper
Cocoa Vanilla Sugar & Spice flair button
Cocoa Vanilla Make a Wish - Party Dots patterned paper
Cocoa Vanilla Make a Wish - Party Mix patterned paper (title)
Cocoa Vanilla Free Spirit wood veneers
Hydrangea blossoms
Dear Lizzy Springhouse - Spring crocheted flower
Green Tara 2cm Gerbera - Pink flowers
Green Tara 2cm Gerbera - White flowers
Kaisercraft Rose pearls

I'm sharing this layout at:
