Pixels and Paper - team training

This is a copy of the post that I created for Pixels and Paper - team training feature for April.

This year I succumbed to popular culture and bought myself a pretty planner.  A really nice Kikki K one.  (I am going to be more organised.  I am.  I hope.)  We're well into the year, and I'm still using it and loving it. So far, so good!

But I've discovered I don't have enough dividers to categorise the information I want to keep in there. I know lots of people use mobile apps for this stuff, but there are some things I find easier to deal with on paper.

So I decided to make my own dividers.  It's super simple AND cost effective because I'm using up my old scrapbooking stash.  Here's what I did for my first one:

1>  I took one of the original dividers that came with the planner, and used it as a template.

I traced the design onto my chosen patterned paper, and cut it out.  (Does anyone know how just old this Cloud9 paper is??)  I also added some penwork around the edge, but that's just something I do. For this one, I added a strip of washi tape to cover up the product information strip, and it also helped to reinforce the edge.

2> Next, I added a little title to my divider.

This section of my planner will contain the J-girl's school timetable and extra-curricular activities so I can keep track of my taxi-service commitments.  Another opportunity to use up some old stash (Arctic Frog alphabet stickers - and I even used two Z's!!)

3> Here's what it looks like, inserted in the planner:

4>  I've written "JAZZ" on the tab since taking this photograph:

I enjoyed customising my planner, and I especially enjoyed using up some old stash in the process.  I hope I have inspired you to think differently about your old stash, and find new way to use it.

Here is a FLASHBACK to the team training feature I did last year.

I spy...

Another layout scrapped for the 2014 winter vacation album:

My layout design was inspired by the April sketch challenge at Kaisercraft... patterned papers (and tag) from the Offshore collection.

The April cyber crop challenge at Mystical Scrapbooks inspired me to use a quote on my layout.  On the tag I have written a quote from a piece of Robin Dance's amazing artwork (which I came across online while searching for some information about humpback whales!)

And the subject matter... perfect for the FLORA/FAUNA theme at Unstampabelles.  Whales are the largest of all fauna!  For the texture twist, I've used foam dots to add dimension to the waves, and lovely smooth texture with the satin ribbon.

Materials
Bazzill Basics cardstock
Kaisercraft Offshore - Breaker patterned paper
Micador Collected & Co - Text Type White alphabet stickers
Satin ribbon from my habby stash

Shine (2)

I created this page in response to the journalling challenge at the Mystical Scrapbooks cybercrop.  My colour scheme of orange and teal and olive green was inspired by this book cover prompt at Scrap Our Stash:

A close-up of the clouds:

This layout is a companion page to this one.  I didn't set out to do a double page spread for these photographs, but I had one last scrap of the Kaisercraft paper left over, and I played around with some other scraps from my offcuts stash.   I'm thrilled with how the pages look together:

Materials
Kaisercraft The Looking Glass - Tweedle Dum patterned paper
Echo Park Victoria Gardens - Blooming Blossoms patterned paper
Washi tape (x3)
Paper clip
Crayola Golden Yellow watercolour pencil
Notebook paper
Micador Collected & Co - Clouds stickers

Song my dog wrote

I had fun creating this layout:

The photo had been sitting in my to-do pile for a while, and I was pretty sure I'd use this background paper, but I would never have considered adding vintage music score paper... UNLESS I'd come across the April challenge at Creative Embellishments.  I was inspired by the music theme - with a twist to include a song title.  I also used a CE chipboard frame in the background.

I heard a really fun song online ~ SONG MY DOG WROTE by Brendan Biondi ~ which captured everything I wanted to say. {If you're a dog lover you should take a listen and check out the music video too.}

I'm also joining in at the Mystical Scrapbooks cyber crop for the Words, Words, Words theme.  I've included some of the song lyrics as my journalling.

I think this is one of my favourite layouts of the year, and I hope the ladies at Clique Kits like it too.  I'm sharing there for the Anything Goes theme.

I took inspiration from the colours to create this layout:

The photo montage was swiped from my daughter's Facebook page - some selfies she took with our dog.  {I suspect she used an app to compile the montage, but I don't know which one.}

This layout is my response to the sketch challenge at Scrapbooking Top 50 Australia:
