Smile

This layout was inspired by the creative work of Sue Plumb - in particular, her process video created for the Scrapping Clearly cyber crop earlier this month. {Click on image to link.}

I scrapped on the back of another layout, so I left out the painted background and the top-and-bottom page tearing detail, but I've filed away those ideas for another day :)  I used Sue's techniques of layering different sizes of scrap paper, adding muslin for texture, and visual triangle placement of  embellishments.

Unstampabelles ~ Creative Souls

I think any kind of art is the work of a creative soul!  But I did break away from my go-to style with this layout, and got creative with texture paste stencilling and watercolour paints.  I was inspired by the work of Brisbane scrapbooker Amanda Hartmann, who uses a lot of mixed media in her layouts.  I watched a fun, relaxed video tutorial that she created for the Scrapping Clearly cyber crop, and my layout CASE's some of those elements - texture paste, paint, and basic diagonal design.  Amanda used stamped butterflies on her layout, but I used clear stickers stuck on patterned paper instead.

* Lasting Memories ~ LM#493 Word Play

Two photographs
Uniball journalling pen
Love Always patterned paper (Cocoa Vanilla)
Iridescent spray
Pearls

It's really hard to capture the iridescence in my photograph, but in real life it has a very pretty, shimmery finish:

* STAMPlorations ~ April Stencil Challenge

I used a Kaisercraft stencil and modelling paste.

Oh Baby - Scrap yourself as a baby/toddler

I don't have any baby/toddler photographs, so went with a story my Mum told me about myself.  I chose the colours and style of papers to evoke the early 1970's. This one is a 6x6; maybe I'll start a little album of miscellaneous childhood memories?

How to scrap an imperfect photo?

I love playing with colour, and I love the April mood board at Scrapping Clearly:

I took inspiration from the bright colour palette, and I included the crocheted embellishments for dimension and texture as shown in the image.  {For reference - the background paper is pale pink - that's not a colour cast.}

Materials
Fancy Pants Trend Setter - Style Sheet solid paper
My Mind's Eye The Sweetest Thing - Tangerine - Wonderful - Dandy patterned paper
DCWV Watercolour patterned papers
Dear Lizzy Springhouse - Spring crocheted flowers
Buttons from my habby stash
Kaisercraft Vines cutting dies
Echo Park Sweet Summertime alphabet stickers
Echo Park Sweet Summertime element stickers
Carl Mini Daisy punch
Kaisercraft Rhinestones - Yellow Deep gems

The photo has been sitting in the pile for years.  It's a bit blurry and the light balance is way off - too exposed on one side, too much shadow everywhere.  Photoshop magic can't fix everything! But it's still a special memory, and it's now got a place in the Mt Warning trip album.

And a little close up of the lovely crocheted flowers:

This one was inspired by the Mystery Bag challenge at Soul Scrappers.  The requirements are to use the short poem AND include a picture of ourselves.  This is the poem:

I’m Original
I’m an original,
There’s no other like me,
I’m not perfect,
Yet my imperfections make me,
Unique and not duplicable,
I love to be me,
So please love me as I am,
And not as a copy of another,
Let me stay true to myself

SURVIVOR - April entry

Soul Scrappers is celebrating the site's 10th anniversary in 2020, with a SURVIVOR-themed year long challenge.  It's modelled on the reality tv show, except there will be no eliminations.  I've signed up and I will be sharing my creations on my blog.

** Participants can sign up all year - and there's also a random element so everyone has a chance to earn points and win some scrappy prizes **

The theme for the April challenge is STARS, and this is my layout:

Materials
Rose Moka Mec - Charmant patterned paper
Collette Stuck on You puffy alphabet stickers
Portacraft Glitter Foam stars

The brief was - You must scrap a page with as many stars as you can possibly add!

I thought the best way to add zillions of stars was to use lots of tiny ones... and so I decided to make some shaker embellishments. This was the first time I've ever done this, so there was a bit of trial and error involved. In the end I cut up some display sheets, machine-stitched the edges, filled the pockets, then stitched the last little bit.

I've never wanted or needed a fuse tool before now, but now I can definitely appreciate how handy it would be! My sewing machine didn't want to play the game at first, so I a few dodgy practice runs.  I tucked one of the 'reject' stars behind the title:

And another detail shot from the bottom of the page, showing the larger sequins in the big star, and tiny ones in the other:
