This page was inspired by the March challenge at Scrap the Boys ~ When I grow up...  

I put my own spin on it, because my husband has said countless times, "I never want to grow up!" and this page is a celebration of his playful attitude towards life.

PS - For the non-Australian visitors, "dill" is not just a herb.  It is a slang word for someone who does silly or idiotic things.

ARTastic Challenge is all about MONOCHROMATIC this month, inspired by this Lisa Frances Judd artwork:

I loved the wide open spaces in the painting, so I went with an outdoor theme with lots of BLUE.  My layout was created using 100% Kaisercraft product!

Survivor - March

Soul Scrappers is celebrating the site's 10th anniversary in 2020, with a SURVIVOR-themed year long challenge.  It's modelled on the reality tv show, except there will be no eliminations.  I've signed up and I will be sharing my creations on my blog.

** Participants can sign up all year - and there's also a random element so everyone has a chance to earn points and win some scrappy prizes **

The theme for the March challenge is FIRE.

The challenge doesn't require the layout to include a photograph of fire, but I have a few good fireground shots that I took while responding as a volunteer firefighter during our most recent summer fire season. This layout will be a companion page for THIS ONE. I didn't go with an exact match for the page, because I wanted to create something unique and different for the Survivor challenge.

I created my background flames by sponging paint and texture paste through a stencil:



I added white paint pen for definition, and sprayed with iridescent mist to simulate the smoke and embers. I also used the stencil to create some patterned paper and foil paper flames, to add layers and dimension:



I used a Rural Fire Service T-card to record the main details, and I also journalled on the remainder of the card (taped to back of layout).

Azure Blue

I was invited to be a guest designer for February at White...with 1 ~ this month showcasing AZURE BLUE, such a pretty colour!  I've used the optional Page Maps sketch as my starting point too:

This is my layout, which features a replica Stinson, the same model as the ill-fated Stinson aircraft that crashed near O'Reillys in 1937.  My blues are a little shy of azure, but I think the blue sky in the photographs lifts all of the colours:

THE PAST - Everything about historic buildings, especially old churches, intrigues me!  I love exploring both inside and out, and wondering about all the stories and secrets that the walls hold.  I also feel that the way buildings and their surroundings are preserved, tells a lot about the modern towns and cities that have built up around them.

RUST - I took a zillion photos of the cathedral, but for this page I chose a photograph showing the rusty stair railings in the foreground. I altered the chipboard piece with embossing powders and sprays to try to achieve an aged, 'rusty' look.  This part of the challenge pushed me out of my comfort zone, so I'm pretty pleased with what I was able to achieve with my limited mixed media supplies.

Off the Rails - FIRE

I don't always get the opportunity to take photographs on the fire ground (too busy!) but I did manage a few decent shots during one of my night shifts at Mount Barney late last year.  This is the layout I created:
