I'm playing along with the April challenge at ARTastic.  This is the art inspiration this month, an amazing painting titled We Will Remember Them:

The criteria is TYPOGRAPHY.   This is my layout:



I took inspiration from the feeling of heritage/nostalgia.  I used a blocked text background, consisting of a mix of typefaces.

White with Jester Red

I love red, so I couldn't resist the challenge at White... with 1 this month.  This is my layout:



The photograph was taken when we attended the Yayoi Kasuma Obliteration Room installation at GOMA a few years ago - an interactive art exhibit which was lots of fun!  I used some fun elements in the layout - a playing card, some twine and a plastic clothing clip.

Hunger Games

I came across some more photographs from J-girl's last year of primary school, and scrapped two more layouts for her 2012 album.

This one was based on the first April sketch at Stuck?! and also the weekly challenge at Scrapbook Fantasies for the "Inspired by a movie" theme:

This is the mood board that provided the inspiration:

I used kraft for the base cardstock, and black and white for everything else.  The elements taken from the mood board are the circles (fussy cut patterned paper motif) and the framed text (mixed typeface journal card).

J-girl donated her arrow pendant, which she doesn't wear anymore - perfect for this layout!  I had to stitch it on because it was too heavy to glue down.  I upcycled a  mesh fruit bag for my background, and added white Sharpie outlines to the title letters:



More arrows to tie in with the theme, this time from my old grungeboard stash, treated with white gesso and stapled on:

Day tripping

Scrapping another photo for the October day trip album:



My layout design was inspired by:

* A2Z Scraplets ~ Stencil and ink (and a scraplet):



The scraplet is a bird from the 2010 (discontinued?) Bird and Birdhouse set. I coloured it with watercolour pencils and paper-pieced accents.

* Mixed Media Monthly ~ DIMENSION theme:

The chipboard and buttons add subtle dimension, along with the layer of texture paste beneath the photograph.

* Creative Artiste ~ Chipboard, stencils or flowers

Merry and bright

I scrapped a simple pocket page today, to get started on some of our Christmas photographs:



The design of my page was inspired by a few different challenges:

* Archi-Scraps ~ Use SPOTS.   I love using spots and polka dots, and I have a huge collection of spotty papers and other embellishments.  It was fun to find the right combination for this page, and I particularly liked the large spots with the stars on them.

* My Mind's Eye ~ Add a shaker element.  This is something I haven't done on a layout before, and I thought it would suit a pocket page very well.  I used gold sequins and stars, and I secured the top of the page with a folded strip of scalloped paper and washi tape:



I used products from four different MME collections ~ Boy Crazy, Breaking Free, Collectable and Jubilee.

* Simon Says Monday ~ We can see clearly.  Pocket pages are transparent...

Vintage inspiration

What a fabulous picture prompt this month at Pixels and Paper! Using the photo for inspiration, and the additional criteria of VINTAGE STYLE, this is what I created:



I love to explore antique stores that we come across during our day trips.  I scrapped some photographs that I took in an old wares store in a local country town. I choose a spotted background like the inside of the chest in the photograph. The vintage elements are book pages, old lace, and torn papers.

View from the top

I used the March sketch from My Creative Sketches to help me along with another page for our 2014 winter vacation album...



I flipped the sketch and used two photos instead of one, but if you squint you can still see the basic bones of the sketch!   The AQUA challenge at Scrapbook Fantasies inspirec me to rummage through my 'aqua' ziplock bag of paper scraps.

I'm submitting this one for the March challenge at LESSology, where the theme is hand lettered love. I have hand-written journalling on the pull-out tag, and I have hand-written my title.

The pink tissue paper is recycled wrapping from a gift, and I made the title from product packaging card:

Bliss

Today's layout share:



I was inspired by the new challenge at More Than Words:

I used white gesso as a background, and the word 'bliss' for my handwritten title.  My journalling reads: What other word can you use to describe the relaxed feeling of a rainforest cafe, with birdsong and a delicious cappucino?

The colour palette and background texture technique was inspired by the March challenge at Archi-Scraps.  The requirements were: Use gesso or texture paste, and some yellow.

I added texture to the gesso by stamping into it with an embossing folder:

Monochromatic in March...

How delicious is this inspiration picture from Pixels and Paper this month?

I love hot drinks of all kinds, and I don't need much encouragement to take photographs when we go out for a special treat!

The additional criteria this month is monochromatic, which also happens to be one of my favourite techniques.  I used tones of mustard in my layout:
