Cybercropping at D-lish

I love cyber cropping. There's always a challenge that brings to mind a photograph or event that needs to be scrapped.  Or a challenge that gives me an idea about how to scrap a photograph that's been taunting me.  Or just gives me a gentle nudge back to the scrap table to take some time out for myself.

I rarely manage to complete all of the challenges at a cyber crop, but it's great to have a variety of prompts.  These are the challenges I completed for the D-lish Scraps / Scrap Suite May cybercrop:

Challenge 1:  I cut my photograph into an oval shape to fit the wood veneer frame:

Materials:
Bo Bunny Alora - Leaves patterned paper (reverse side)
Trinket Track wood veneer frame
FWAB Silver adhesive rhinestones
Cosmo Cricket DeLovely - Elements journal card

Challenge 3

I'm kind of fickle when it comes to scrapping 'favourites' so I chose some of the things I am loving right now ~ neutral colours, vintage book pages, learning to use stencils, using up scraps of this-and-that, making my own titles, and (always!) lots of stitching.

Materials:
Bazzill Basics cardstock
Tim Holtz Rays layering stencil
MME Wild Asparagus patterned paper
Kaisercraft Enchanted Garden patterned paper
Carolee's Creations AdornIt - Tiny Black alphabet stickers
Heidi Swapp Ledger 2 journalling spot
Kraft envelope
My Memories butterfly punch
Vintage book page
Pepper Pot flair button
Alphabet stencil

Challenge 4:

I followed the sketch fairly closely but I simplified the elements because of the strong metallic colours.  I made my own title using a children's alphabet stencil:

Materials:
Pink Paislee Color Wash - Shine patterned paper
MFT Mix-ables - Winged Beauties stencil
LuminArte Twinkling H2O - Indian Copper watercolour paint
Doily
Gold trim
Alphabet stencil

I am submitting this layout at Simon Says Wednesday Challenge for the Anything Goes theme.

Materials:
Collage Press Margot - Cherry Blossoms patterned paper
Vintage book page
Cosmo Cricket Tiny Type alphabet stickers.
Derivan Crystal Glitter acrylic paint
Ranger Distress Stickles - Worn Lipstick glitter paint

Some sketch layouts

Another layout for the Lightning Ridge album... this one is based on the May sketch at C'est Magnifique:

I used a mixed media background, which I fortuitously created on a recycled kraft envelope.  The envelope started out as a spatter-guard while I was misting a chipboard shape, and some time later I used the same piece to 'stamp off' the excess gesso from a stencil before wiping it down.  I ended up with something that was kind of pretty in a random sort of way, and I put it aside for "later use".

My title is hand-drawn and cut from a thick piece of watercolour paper.

I'd like to submit this layout at Clique Kits for the Anything Goes theme.

Materials:
Ranger Dylusions - Squeezed Orange ink spray
CTW Balzer Designs - Mini Art Deco Leaves 6x6 stencil
Cr8tiv alphabet stickers
Portacraft foam glitter stickers

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

This layout is for the winter 2014 mini-break album, based on a sketch from Blue Fern Studios:

I used some BFS Turkish Bits chipboard, which I painted with gesso and acrylic paint.

I am submitting this layout at Simon Says Wednesday Challenge for the Anything Goes theme, and for Another Freaking Scrappy Challenge for the Flowers theme.

Other materials:
Crate Paper Maggie Holmes - Click patterned paper
Manor House Minuettes - Pink Mix paper flowers
Prima Esprit - Blue blue flowers
Kaisercolour Coastal Blue acrylic paint
Studio Girl Rembrandt's Words 6x6 stencil
Resin shapes

Getting through a few more travel pics this week, this one another single photo page, inspired by Jane's cybercrop challenge at Mystical Scrapbooks ~ use ink and stamps:

I created the background by stamping with corrugated cardboard, and I used distress ink to stamp the leaves and journal spot.  A little close-up of the stamps:

I'm also submitting at Simon Says Wednesday Challenge for the Anything Goes theme.

Kaisercolour Spearmint acrylic paint
Cosmo Cricket Tiny Type alphabet stickers
Kaisercraft Doodled Frames stamp

Storm

We've had our share of some extreme weather events in this part of the world; back in January one of the storms had everyone talking about the sudden black clouds that rolled in from nowhere... (Photo credit: Sue Streek)

This layout is based on the May sketch at Anna's Craft Cupboard, although I did simplify it a little:

Materials:
Pink Paislee Spring Fling - Rain Shower patterned paper
Kaisercraft Esperance - Summer Breeze patterned paper
Prima product packaging
Echo Park A Walk in the Park - Element Stickers flowers
Echo Park Sweet Summertime - Alpha Stickers letters
Bella! Bling turquoise gems
Crayola watercolour pencil - green

************************

Over at Scrapki-Wyzwaniowo there is a fun BUBBLES theme:

I thought that would be perfect for some more of the storm cloud photographs I wanted to scrap, and maybe even bring to mind the rain and hail that followed!  I added acrylic paint to the texture paste, and created my background with a stencil:

This layout was also for the May cybercrop at Mystical Scrapbooks ~ Using texture paste and paint.
And I'd like to submit at Clique Kits for their Anything Goes theme.

Materials:
Kaisercolour Spearmint acrylic paint
Stencil Girl Striped Circles 6x6 stencil
Websters Pages Allison Kreft - Recorded patterned papers
MFT Die-namics - Little Letters alphabet dies
MFT Die-namics - Little Lowercase Letters alphabet dies

Lots of blue, lots of texture

13Arts has a fun Selfie challenge which I'd like to join in.  My daughter took this photograph of the two of us while we were at a cafe earlier this month.

I'm also playing at Kafe Scrapo Mama for this fun challenge:

The requirements are to use BLUE as the primary colour, and to use TEXTURE:

Blue ~ Well, as you can see... there's LOTS of blue.
Texture ~ I used textured cardstock and thick, textured watercolour paper.  It feels really nice when I touch it, but unfortunately it was really hard to photograph.  I also added some sequins for a contrasting smooth texture:

Materials:
TCW Balzer Designs - Mini Art Deco Leaves 6x6 stencil
LuminArte Twinkling H2O - Majestic Blue watercolour paint
Cosmo Cricket Tiny Type alphabet letters
Gold sequins
Paper clip

I created this layout based on the May sketch at The Scrapbook Store.  The sketch was perfect for the series of shots I took at my daughter's Year 7 class concert:

I'm submitting my layout at Clique Kits for their monthly Anything Goes challenge.

LuminArte Twinkling H2O - Indian Copper watercolour
Gold sequins
TCW Zenspirations - Live Laugh Love 6x6 stencil

{I cut the centre from a vintage crocheted doily to use for one of my flowers.}

Playing with watercolours

Not a lot of scrapping happening here, but I've been playing around with my old stash of Twinkling H2O watercolours and seeing how they work with stencils. Probably my poor technique, but I ended up with lots of blobs and probably too much water on the brush, and a big mess!

These were the most successful attempts:

Watercolour paper + Twinkling H2O (Majestic Blue) + TCW Mini Art Deco Leaves stencil + paint brush:

There was quite a bit of leakage but it doesn't look too bad... I have an idea forming about what kind of project to make this into.

Smooth white cardstock + paint-stained stencil lifted from previous page:

Still a bit of smudging, but I was reasonably happy with this.  I don't have a Gelli plate or brayer, so it was all done with my fingers!  I decided to use this one as a simple background for a layout:

I'm submitting my layout at Studio Calico for the National Scrapbook Day challenge ~ use watercolours.

Skydive layout #6

Another double LO for J-girl's skydive album, using Cocoa Vanilla - Flying High collection of papers and embellishments:

I'm entering my layout over at Simon Says Wednesday Challenge for the Let's Get Sentimental theme.  I love using journalling cards on my layouts to make a quick, simple title/sentiment.  This one is big and bold and I thought it was perfect for the photograph.  Once again, I've left off the journalling so J-girl can add her own thoughts when the album is finished.

And speaking of BOLD, I'm still playing along with the National Scrapbook Day challenges at Studio Calico; this one is for the Go Bold theme.  Big photo, primary colours and bold geometrics...

Here's a little detail shot of the wood veneer aeroplane, just because it's so cute!

Abandoned rail line

I am drawn to all kinds of trains, particularly the heritage variety.  Wherever we travel (usually by car, not by rail!) we seek out railway stations, railway lines, rail bridges... there's always something interesting to explore, or at least a place to take some photographs.  I've still got a bunch of shots from our trip to Tenterfield last winter, and I made a fresh start on getting some more of them scrapped over the weekend:

This layout was inspired by a National Scrapbook Day sketch at Studio Calico:

I made my own tag for this one, using coordinating patterned paper, and I machine-stitched around the edges to bring it all together.  Stitching?  I'll submit at Scrap it Girl for the May stitching & sewing theme.

And to top it off, I'm also sharing this at Simon Says Wednesday Challenge for the Anything Goes theme.

Materials:
Kaisercraft Enchanted Garden - Rapture patterned paper
Kaisercraft Enchanted Garden - Entrance patterned paper
Echo Park Sweet Summertime journalling card
Washi tape

Pixels & Paper - May DT reveal

1st May already... what happened to April?  Time again for my DT reveal for Pixels and Paper Challenge Blog.   Here is the gorgeous inspiration pic:

I wavered a LOT when thinking about what I'd create this month.  My initial thought was to use bluebirds.  {My mother each had one of those little bluebird brooches and gave it to me when I was a child. I still have it kept in a safe place.}   In the end, I decided to go with the dress patterns:

I used some vintage dress pattern tissue paper, lace, and stitching:

(I used some chipboard birdies too!)  I'd love to see how everyone else is inspired!

I'm submitting my layout at Simon Says Wednesday Challenge for the Anything Goes theme.  The focus is on Prima this week ~ I used Prima alphabets and crocheted flower.

Materials:
K&Company Blue Awning patterned paper
Vintage dress patterns
Dusty Attic Song Birds chipboard shapes
Prima Rondelle textured canvas alphabets
Prima Sweet Taffy - Blue crocheted flower
The Craft Queen crocheted lace (dark brown)
