Weekend cyber cropping

Got motivated and did some more weekend scrapping at the Mystical Scrapbooks cybercrop:

Cybercrop layout challenge #2 ~ Use cardstock to double-mat a photograph.  Took me back to old-school scrapping; haven't done that for a long time! I combined this one with the April challenge at Creative Embellishments, using the pretty inspiration picture and a CE flair:

How I was inspired by the picture:   I used spring colours (shades of pink with soft greens), a spring photograph (Spring 2012 at our local Botanic Gardens) and included some butterflies.

Materials:
Studio 75 Rosalie in the Garden 03 patterned paper
My Minds Eye Wild Asparagus - So Pretty - Floral/Dark Pink double-sided cardstock
White cardstock - smooth
Craft Queen crocheted lace
Making Memories Noteworthy glitter die cuts
Creative Embellishments Butterfly flair
American Crafts Thickers - Giggles foam alphabets
My Memories butterfly punch
Adhesive pearls - pink

20/05/2015 EDIT TO ADD:  This layout was featured as a Gallery Pick over at Mystical Scrapbooks

Cybercrop layout challenge #3 ~ Use cardstock to create your title.  I cut the title from plain white cardstock using an alphabet die set.  I used Brenda's sketch to create my layout.

Materials:
Studio 75 Rosalie in the Garden 03 patterned paper
My Minds Eye Wild Asparagus - So Pretty - Floral cardstock
White cardstock - smooth
Gold trim
MFT Die-namics - Little Letters alphabet dies
MFT Die-namics - Little Lowercase Letters alphabet dies
Crayola Watercolour - Peach pencil

Bonus card challenge ~ Use two different cardstock:

This is the first card I've made this year.  After all these years I'm still not a confident card maker, so I sought some extra inspiration.  I used this mood palette from Off the Rails Scrapbooking:

Materials:
Bazzill Bling - Bankroll cardstock
Coredinations Black Tie cardstock
Provocraft Cuttlebug - Moroccan Screen embossing folder
Cosmo Cricket DeLovely - Elements journal card
Forever in Time Dainty - Diamond Look button
Green flowers from my stash - unknown manufacturer/s

Inspired by Gustav Klimt

What a fabulous challenge at Scrapki  Wyzwaniowo ~ to be inspired by any artwork by Austrian artist, Gustav Klimt.

So spoilt for choice! I eventually settled on this one:

And this one too:

This is my layout, inspired by the serene pond setting and reflection, the spirals and the gold tones:

I combined this one with a challenge over at Mystical Scrapbooks cybercrop, using a cardstock base and no patterned paper or other paper products.

Materials:
Bazzil Basics cardstock
Provocraft Cuttlebug - D'Vine Swirls embossing folder
Moon Glow King Midas Gold embossing powder
Gold trim
Yellow rhinestones
Prima Zephyr textured canvas alphabets

Day tripping

I broke out the bright colours for this layout about our day trip to Karragarra Island:

I was inspired by sketch #25 at Scrap Our Stash.

* Sketch:  I flipped the sketch to put the stripe down the opposite side.
* Inspiration board:  I used the elements of multi-coloured polka dots, and splashes of hot pink.

I couldn't resist extending the layout into a double pager, to accommodate the other photographs from our trip:

His story

This layout was inspired by the colours in the April Scrap the Boys mood board:

I was also influenced by the creative work of Canadian scrapper Chantal Philippe -  I really admire her quirky, minimalist style.  This is my first attempt at trying to simplify things a bit and I found it kind of tricky to strike a balance between simple and interesting. Used up lots of little scraps and random items from my desk.

Materials:
Echo Park Life is Good - Grandma's Quilt - patterned paper
K&Company Blue Awning patterned pape
Chic Tags Autumn Days - Tabbed ATC journalling card
Cre8tiv alphabet stickers
My Memories butterfly punch

Lately I've been saving these boxes

... because I love the mottled silver on the inside of the packaging; it has a nice subtle shine to it too... no misting or mixed media treatment required!

This is what I used the cardboard for today:

And the layout I created, based on the April sketch at The Scrapbook Store:

My paper choice was inspired by the Typeface theme at LESSology.  My upcycled item is described above, and I used a mixed font title:

Materials:
Little Yellow Bicycle Traveler - Orange Bloom/Orange Wide Stripe patterned paper
Maya Road Jonathan chipboard alphabets
Martha Stewart Arch Lattice border punch
Creative Embellishments Seaweed chipboard shape
Ranger Dylusions - Squeezed Orange ink spray

19/05/2015 UPDATE:  My layout was selected in the Top 3 at LESSology:

c. 1870

This layout was inspired by the April sketch at Blue Fern Studios.  I used BFS Tweet Friends chipboard, which I painted with texture paste and heat embossed:

I'm also submitting my layout at:

* Clique Kits ~ Anything Goes.  The sponsor this month is Fancy Pants; I dug into my stash and used a Fancy Pants Creative Cards designer trading card as my photo mat. That card guided my embellishment choices for the rest of the layout.

* Another Freaking Scrappy Challenge ~ Use old stash.  The oldest stash item I've used is the above mentioned FP card.  The Prima embossed flowers are a 2007 release (just checked the packaging), and the Kaisercraft paper is from a 2012 collection.  And then there's the layout theme ~ a beautiful old house built circa 1870.

Other materials:
Kaisercraft Lil Primrose - Fancy Dress patterned paper
Prima Belle Fleur - Gold Embossed poinsettia
Chic Tags Autumn Days - Tabbed ATC journalling card
Flying Unicorn Victoria Garden - Rays of Love mini roses
Prima Zephyr textured canvas alphabets

Super simple layout - nothing too technical with this one.  A bit of machine stitching, a bit of fussy cutting, a bit of edge punching...

I'd like to enter the following challenges:
* Scrap it Girl - Black, white and one other colour
* Scrappy Friends - Kelly's word challenge.  {I included the word eggs in the journalling.}
* Clique Kits - Anything Goes

Materials:
Becky Higgins Project Life - Jade Collection patterned papers
Pink Paislee Indigo Bleu - Burlap patterned paper (fussy cut flowers)
Carolee's Creations AdornIt - Tiny Black alphabet stickers
Buttons from my habby stash
Martha Stewart Floral Lace border punch

Yi's Cafe

I frequently scrap with 'old stash' because I have so much of it.  So, I love "stash" challenges - they provide me with extra motivation to use up my 'even older stash' that I am somewhat embarrassed about hoarding.  Over at Another Freaking Scrappy Challenge the April challenge is right up my alley, and this is what I created:

I emptied my 'red scraps' ziplock bag, cut up the patterned papers into strips, and painted over the lot with white gesso.  It's a particularly useful technique when the patterns/colours don't appeal so much anymore, or don't quite match. The papers are now very muted but the patterns still show through.  I used some of the larger rectangular scraps make a layered mat, and I added some red mesh (onion bag) to add texture. I am also guilty of hoarding kraft envelopes - the "Reply Paid" ones that come with some bills and art union brochures.  I cut up an envelope to make my journalling strips, and a few freehand hearts too.

I hope this also fits the bill for this month's challenge at LESSology for the Typeface challenge. Instead of a photograph on this layout I used a loyalty card from a cafe that I visited (where the logo consists of a distinctive script).  No need for a separate title!  My journalling tells the story, and I've mixed in a few alphabet stickers to add interest.

Explore

It's been a while since I joined in a challenge at Scrap Around the World(Actually, I always feel a little intimidated ~ the entries from around the world are so truly brilliant and I am WAY out of my depth.)  However, April mood board caught my eye and I really wanted to try it:

I was inspired by the nautical theme and the calming bleached-driftwood-and-aqua colour palette, and that big rope coil immediately brought to mind a random photograph that I took on a tall ship last year.  I decided to give it a go, and this is the 8x8 layout that I came up with:

In keeping with my personal scrapping style, it's very linear and simple.  I added hand stitching for the border and machine stitching for the papers and photograph.  I was going for a 'sea spray' effect with the paint splatters but it was a bit of a disaster!  I used a pipette to 'splat' the spearmint colour; it looked a bit odd on its own so I added a few texture paste splotches and aimed for a 'sea foam' effect instead... still not terribly successful.  My last ditch attempt to salvage the page involved a tiny amount of glitter and hoping for the best:

Over at Picture This the first April combo is ONE PHOTO + SPLATTER + PHOTO CORNERS - I checked all the boxes!  {I made my own photo corners with corrugated cardboard.}

Materials:
Webster's Pages Allison Kreft - Recorded patterned papers and journal card
Plain twine
DMC embroidery thread #422
Prima Cartographer wooden embellishment
Kaisercolour Spearmint acrylic paint
Carolee's Creations Adorn It - Tiny Worn Navy alphabet stickers

Trying something new...

Last year I followed a cool mixed media tutorial by Riikka.  I made a few tags, and tossed my other practice pieces aside for 'another day'.  I came across the colour challenge at Studio Fourteen 40, and knew straight away that I wanted to use those pieces to create a layout.

First, this is the mood board:

This is my layout:

And a close up of my mixed media dabblings:

Materials:
K&Company Blue Awning patterned paper
American Crafts Thickers - Marquise chipboard alphabets
Cosmo Cricket Tiny Type alphabet stickers

Aztec Dreams

The inspiration board at D-lish Scraps this month grabbed my attention:

Webster's Pages Allison Kreft - Recorded patterned papers and journal card

Another double

I'm making great progress on the skydive album.  For this layout I used a sketch from Stuck?!

Photo credit: Peter Brierley (GoPro 3, stillframe from video)

I made it mirror image and stretched it to fit two pages. The large cloud on the right page will be used as a journalling spot - for J-girl to write about her experience in her own words.

I also used the criteria from the Scrap Our Stash April stash challenge:

Stars, stickers
Tim Holtz journalling ticket
Arrows
Mini Alphas
Patterned paper

I can't resist a little close-up, to show Zoe Pearn's gorgeous little arrow stickers and mini star wood veneers:

Materials:
Bazzill Kraft cardstock
Cocoa Vanilla Flying High - Little Man patterned paper
Cocoa Vanilla Flying High - Journal Cards (reverse side) patterned paper
Cocoa Vanilla Flying High wood veneer stars
Cocoa Vanilla Flying High stickers
Tim Holtz Idea-ology journalling ticket
Kaisercraft Mini Alphas - Latte letter stickers

The Retro Recipe challenge at Kraft + inspired me to create another double layout for J-girl's skydive album.  First, the criteria:

I'm pretty sure you can see each of the ingredients clearly on my layout.  My stamping is the date stamp. Journalling will be added by my daughter when the album is finished.

Materials:
Bazzill Kraft cardstock
Cocoa Vanilla Flying High patterned paper
Cocoa Vanilla Flying High stickers
PortaCraft Sticky Glitter foam stars
Bakers' twine
Date stamp
Tim Holtz Idea-ology journalling tickets

Pixels and Paper - April reveal

First of the month, and time for my DT reveal for Pixels and Paper.  This is the inspiration picture:

The bike had me thinking about wheels and gears and circles.  I raided my stash to see what I could find to work with, and I then I rummaged through my photo envelopes to find some suitable pics. This isn't how I envisaged scrapping these photographs, but I am pleased to add another layout to our 2014 family trip album.

This page is about as clean and simple as it gets... and I was pretty happy to use the negative sheet from the chipboard shapes.  Just a bit of gesso, a bit of penwork, a few odd buttons... voila!   I love the flair in the middle too... instant title!

I'd also like to submit my layout at Simon Says Wednesday Challenge, for the Anything Goes theme.

Materials:
Becky Higgins Project Life - Jade Collection patterned paper
A2Z Scraplets Shapes - Cog Set 3 chipboard
MME Jubilee Mint Julep - Wild flair
Buttons from my haby stash
